C.S. Lewis
Hello Pastors and Church Leaders,
I understand the frustration you feel. You work faithfully on inspired and inspiring messages week in and week out, and then it seems they are gone into the ether. Maybe a few people listen to a recording of it later, but then it’s gone again.
But you believe in what you have written and preached. And you, understandably, would like for your words, and the truths you have seen, to outlive you.
You dream of being a published author.
And so, you have either already written a book, or you are ready to compile your sermons into a manuscript.
You can almost see your book in your hands, professionally designed and distributed, with your name on the cover.
You can imagine people you have never met and never will meet, reading what you have written, and being touched and changed by what the Lord has shown you.
Then you snap out of it and realize you don’t know where to begin. Sure, you can google “How do I get a book published” but then what?
As you research, you find that the doors of “traditional” publishing are closed to most of us. Most established traditional publishers—you know, the big guys who praise your book and give you money for the privilege of publishing it—don’t operate like that anymore.
In fact, they won’t even look at your proposal or query letter without having received it through your agent.
Did I mention that you have to find an agent and convince them to represent you first?
You aren’t starting at square one because they don’t even let you in the game—unless you have a social media following of multiple thousands, or a congregation of 20,000 members, who the publisher is counting on to all buy your book for them.
So you change your google search to “how do I self publish my book?”
You click on those ads and listings, go to their websites, and they don’t tell you anything about the cost until you give them your email for “free information.”
Then they hide many of their costs, and they never leave you alone, even when you decide not to go with them.
And if you do find out the cost, it is often many thousands of dollars, often $6,000 to $10,000—and possibly resulting in a book that you don’t like, but you have had no say in its design, and now you’re stuck with it.
And maybe you are also stuck with the thousand or so copies that you were required to buy, piled up in your study or garage.
So what’s left? Will you ever see the dream God put in your heart realized?
That’s where we come in.
My name is Mark Wyatt, and I am the founder and publisher of Wyatt & Sons Publishers, LLC, in Mobile, Alabama. I operate an independent publishing company, and I have been in your shoes.
I am a retired pastor and church planter of 30+ years, and I currently work as a hospice chaplain in addition to being a publisher for leaders just like you.
My first book, the manuscript of my PhD dissertation, was published in 2011 by a “subsidy” publisher. That means I had to subsidize the first print run. I agreed to buy two thousand copies at “cost” and then they printer more for distribution to bookstores.
It cost me $14,000 and I still have hundreds of books left, if you want one.
For my second book, I signed with the self-publishiing arm of a large, well-known traditional Christian publisher. They sold me the hope that the parent company just might pick it up and make it a bestseller! Didn’t happen. Rarely does.
Then, in the production of the book, after raisiing the money for the initial fee and paying it, I was extremely limited by their terms.
I only had one chance to offer revision suggestions on the cover. If I wanted more, I would have to pay for it.
I had a very small number of revisions I could make to the layout of the manuscript. Any more, and—you guessed it—I pay more.
On top of that, any copies that I wanted to but were at their “special” author’s price: $11.50 for a $13.00 book.
I couldn’t even afford to buy my own book.
And so, more than twelve years ago, I decided that if I couldn’t get it done right, I would just have to do it myself.
So, I started Wyatt House Publishing in 2012. We recently rebranded as Wyatt & Sons Publishers, LLC and changed the structure of the company to make it easier to expand, but we have published over 150 books—just like the one in your head and your heart—to the great satisfaction and delight of dozens of authors who are holding their books in their hands today.
And I want to help you, too.
Let me give you an idea of how Wyatt & Sons Publishers can do that.
We tell you our costs right up front. It’s even on the front page of our website.
The package price is all-inclusive.
What does that include?
· For one, you get a personal relationship with the publisher—that’s me. No middlemen, no runaround. I even give you my personal cell number for your questions or issues. I invite you to call or text me any time.
· You get unlimited revisions in the design and content of your book. From the layout to the cover, we don’t go to print until you are completely satisfied with it, no matter how many steps it takes. No charge.
· Since people really do judge a book by its cover, you get a professional, beautiful, full color cover designed with your input, and revised until you absolutely love it.
· You can choose from a multitude of sizes and options—paperback, hardcover, hardcover with dust jacket, laminated hard cover, glossy or matte—whatever matches your vision.
· ISBN number (required for distribution) provided for free. You would have to pay more then $150 to buy it yourself. We also give you the barcode to go with it.
· Automatic distribution to more than 125 online retailers, including amazon, barnesandnoble.com, booksamillion.com, and more. We pay your distribution fee for the first year. After that, it’s only $20/year to sell your book all over the world.
· You retain all of the rights to your book. Wyatt & Sons Publishers does not own your work.
· You get your book in hand in six months or less.
· No minimum or maximum on the number of books you order through us for your own use or resale. Order one book, dozens, hundreds, doesn’t matter. Spend what you want to and can afford.
· And speaking of spending, your author cost per unit is absolutely affordable.
· For instance, for a 225 page paperback book, your cost would be $7.23 against a retail price of $17.95. Shippping is extra, but it all comes right to your door, usually in two weeks or less from the time your order is placed.
· And speaking of shipping, all online orders are handled directly from the print house. You never have to handle any order fulfillment yourself. You also don’t have stacks of books sitting in your garage.
· You get all of this for many thousands less than some other publishers.
But most importantly?
You get integrity. I will personally ensure that your experience with us is everything that you need it to be.
Our mission at Wyatt & Sons is to help you see your dream become reality, and to see your words outlive all of us on the earth, for the glory of God.
In fact, I ask you not to decide to work with us until you pray about it and have a sense of the Lord’s approval.
When you feel good about moving forward, you can contact us from our website, www.wyattpublishing.com. You can also call me any time, at (251) 421-1296.
Thank you for your time.
Together in Him,
Mark
